Accommodations for International Students Homestay Program

St. John's Homestay Co-ordinators screen and monitor homestay families. Some of these major points of screening for homestay families are:

  • Safe and friendly home life
  • The families have a genuine interest in sharing their home and lives
  • Good communication skills, which help build a strong relationship between the student and the family
  • Host families provide proper guidance and caring supervision
  • Students join their host family on outings, picnics, sightseeing, sports, holidays and other celebrations
  • Students learn to communicate in everyday conversational English and gain confidence in their language abilities
  • Host families provide a private room furnished with a bed and bedding, dresser, desk and a study lamp.
  • All host families provide three meals each day which includes a bag lunch for school
  • Students have use of the television, the telephone, and laundry facilities

Our network of host families is interested in other cultures and values the friendship of its international students. This network consists only of families which offer a safe and comfortable English-speaking environment for cultural learning and language skills development. A safe, friendly, relaxed atmosphere will be found in these homes. Students quickly gain confidence using the English language in everyday communication.

This homestay environment not only promotes the learning of language and culture, but also provides opportunities for happy activities such as family outings, ski trips, camping and cultural events. The host families are in frequent contact with the school and help students with the supervision of their homework.
